With compassion and dedication, I have been working with children, youth and their families for over 25 years. My passion for helping began as a Child and Youth worker in both treatment and custody settings. I was privileged to support children with very complex needs and I am forever grateful to them for teaching me patience, respect and open mindedness. This led to years of further experience in other environments like open custody and residential treatment homes, ultimately leading to a career in school social work and person-centered, holistic individual and family counseling. I have special interests in childhood ADHD and Anxiety, but diagnosis is not necessary for one to engage in and benefit from therapy.
My goal is to understand the underlying reasons for the emotional dysregulation that may cause attentional difficulties, impulsivity, anger outbursts, excessive worry, and depression. Despite good intentions, how we respond to our children may cause further dysregulation and I am passionate about teaching the Positive Parenting approach, which is very responsive and empathy based, to help you feel empowered and confident as you respond in even the most stressful situations. I believe that honesty, compassion and respect is integral to building a strong therapeutic relationship with my clients of all ages, backgrounds and experiences. I am always working to better understand race, power, privilege and strive to be culturally sensitive and equitable in my own practice. With a non-judgmental and down to earth style, and through a trauma informed and strength based lens, I use individualized techniques from many therapies so you can learn how to develop healthier coping skills, build stronger bonds with the most important people in your life, and move towards the happy life you deserve. |
